Here's some great news. The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) is going to be giving free eye exams to documented working dogs durring the week of May 3-9, 2009. Over 180 board certified veterinary ophthalmologists are going to donate their time and services.The program is sponsored by Hills Pet Nutrition, KONG Veterinary Products (yep, KONG, you know, the rubber things you fill with peanut butter) and OptiGen, a company that helps provide genetic DNA based diagnoses and information about inherited diseases of dogs.
Note: Yes, we know that they are using the term "Service Dogs" incorrectly and we've notified the ACVO. We're also thrilled that they are offering this generous and amazing service. Please pass this information along!

Sadly they only accept dogs who are certified or currently enrolled in a service dog specific training program which are few and far between. This keeps owner trainers from qualifying.
